Roy Montroy
bio
Roy started playing guitar when he was 13. He would take a reel-to-reel tape deck microphone and put it in the sound hole of an acoustic guitar, hit record, turn it up all the way and “Voila” – rock ‘n roll.
He was in some “nowhere” bands as a singer until he picked up a Farfisa Combo compact electric organ and had his first gig as a keyboard player and background singer. Roy became a Christ-follower in 1974 and joined Jesus People USA where he met Glenn Kaiser and the Resurrection Band. He started traveling with the band as their bus driver and roadie during the 70’s. Roy felt the call to music ministry.
He began writing music for the band in 1979, starting with the fan favorite “White Noise”. The band built their own studio in 1984, and Roy began working there full time. In 1987 he joyously agreed to join Resurrection Band as the bass player. He remained with the band until their last concert at Cornerstone Festival in 2011.
In 1999 Roy joined the Glenn Kaiser Band, a 3-piece blues rock trio, still playing bass. Ed Bialach plays drums, and this band is such a powerhouse that they’re currently still performing.
Roy has been writing many songs over the years that are now coming to life as his solo project, still in the works. Garden of Stone is a taste of one of those songs.
